A quick DIY lover's BFF: Peel and Stick Wallpaper

A quick DIY lover's BFF: Peel and Stick Wallpaper

I don't make a secret of the fact that I love quick and easy DIY's. Long DIY's scare me, and most of the time I just don't get started on them because I'm afraid of messing it all up and wasting materials. Well, if you're short on time, or like me, you love a quick but effective DIY, then Peel and Stick wallpaper may just become your new BFF!

In this blog, I'll show you how I turned a boring white IKEA shoe cabinet into a cute, fresh and modern looking one, in about 10 minutes!

Here’s how to tackle this quick DIY project:

What You’ll Need:

  • Peel-and-stick wallpaper (choose a design/colour that complements your home décor)
  • A measuring tape or ruler
  • Scissors or a craft knife
  • A smooth cloth or wallpaper smoothing tool
  • A pencil (optional)

Step 1: Measure the Surface of Your Shoe Cabinet

The first step to any wallpaper project is to measure the surface area you want to cover. Grab your tape measure and measure the height and width of the cabinet doors or the interior panels where you’d like to apply the wallpaper. This will give you an idea of how much peel-and-stick wallpaper you'll need to cut.

Tip: If you're unsure about the measurements, it's better to measure a bit more than less—it's easier to trim excess wallpaper than to redo a piece that’s too small.

Step 2: Prepare the Surface

Before applying the wallpaper, ensure the surface is clean and free from dust and dirt. Wipe it down with a damp cloth and let it dry completely. This will help the adhesive stick properly and ensure a smooth, long-lasting finish.

Step 3: Cut the Wallpaper

Now that your cabinet is prepped, it’s time to cut your peel-and-stick wallpaper. Measure and cut your wallpaper into strips that are slightly larger than the area you’re covering. The beauty of peel-and-stick wallpaper is that it’s forgiving, so a little extra can be trimmed off later for a perfect fit. *

Step 4: Peel and Stick!

Peel off the backing from the wallpaper, starting from one corner, and carefully apply it to the surface of your shoe cabinet. Start at the top or from one corner and work your way down or across, pressing the wallpaper gently but firmly to the surface. Smooth out any air bubbles as you go using your cloth or wallpaper smoothing tool.

Step 5: Trim and Finish

Once the wallpaper is in place, use scissors or a craft knife to trim away any excess around the edges. Be sure to cut carefully to create a clean, crisp line along the edges of the cabinet.

Step 6: Admire Your Work!

And just like that, your shoe cabinet has a brand new look! The best part? You’ve transformed it in under 10 minutes with minimal effort and maximum impact.

Final Thoughts

A 10-minute peel-and-stick wallpaper project is the perfect way to update your shoe cabinet and add a personalised touch to your space. Whether you're trying to make a statement with a bold pattern or simply brighten up a dark cabinet, peel-and-stick wallpaper provides a quick, no-fuss solution.

With just a little time and a few materials, you can transform your shoe cabinet into a stylish and functional piece of furniture in no time. Happy decorating!

See the before and after below, isn't it great? And the best thing is, not only it's stylish now but it's also wipeable, so doesn't matter that the base colour is white, it will remain white even with the muckiest hands and shoes.
